Developed as a “living” resource for Hispanic Serving Institution-related information, this serves as a starting place to explore the federal designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and related university curriculum, resources, and services.
This forum is organized around three categories: scholarly literature about HSIs; reference materials; and curriculum and resources. The campus community, and particularly members with lived experiences, are invited to view the site and share comments and suggestions at HSI@salemstate.edu.
In September and October, Provost Silva conducted three open meetings to learn about becoming an HSI and how to contribute to the effort. If you have not yet had an opportunity to share your input, we invite you to do so through a .
Regional and enrollment trends indicate that Salem State’s student Latinx and Hispanic population is approaching the U.S. Department of Education’s threshold for granting the HSI designation. Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) are defined as higher education institutions that have an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic students; and are eligible to apply.
