Prof. Elizabeth Duclos-Orsello鈥檚 new research featured in two podcasts

Jul 1, 2024

The PEMcast, produced by the Peabody Essex Museum, features the new work of Prof. Elizabeth Duclos-Orsello, in two recent episodes about lesser-known histories of Rev. William Bentley. In these episodes, Duclos-Orsello, professor of American Studies and Ethnic Studies at Salem State University, and Chair of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, shares new insights into Bentley as a connector and influencer who served as an ally to marginalized communities. This stories Duclos-Orsello points to, about links to immigrant Catholics and religious outsiders, is based on her research for a forthcoming publication, and draws on her expertise in race, class, religious and gender histories in 19th and 20th century cities. Her connections between Bentley鈥檚 life in the 1700s and the 21st century urban landscape and demographics of Salem are provocative and surprising.
