Keynote speakers are Deborah A. Santiago, Co-founder and CEO of Excelencia in Education and Gina Ann Garcia, PhD, an author and professor in the School of Education at UC Berkeley
WHAT: This conference will bring together Hispanic Serving Institutions, Minority Serving Institutions and emerging Hispanic Serving Institutions to build community and increase capacity to intentionally serve this student population with the intent to close equity gaps and create a higher educational environment where all students can thrive. Participants will learn from local and national experts about the growing Latino/a/e/x population and the importance of Hispanic and Minority Serving Institutions in New England.
Participants will hear from and network with educational, government and policy leaders, scholars, students, and community practitioners. They will also engage in workshops to reduce equity gaps to help all students thrive and amplify student and community cultural wealth.

July 18 keynote speaker is: Deborah A. Santiago, Co-founder and CEO, Excelencia in Education and her talk is titled 鈥淔rom Ideas to Action: Intentionally Serving Today鈥檚 Latino Students鈥.
July 19 keynote speaker is: Gina Ann Garcia, PhD, a professor in the School of Education at UC Berkeley and author of multiple books on this topic, will discuss how Hispanic Serving Institutions embrace and enact an organizational identity for service minoritized populations.
The Inaugural Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution Conference is organized by Bunker Hill Community College, Holyoke Community College, MassBay Community College, and Salem State University.
Salem State University is an emerging Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution and is recognized as the Commonwealth鈥檚 Civic Engagement University.
The conference is funded by the Healey-Driscoll Administration through the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) grant program in support of collaborative projects that advance racial equity.

About Salem State University
