What Services Does Health Services Offer?
Health Services provides a wide range of medical support, including:

Medical Services: Same-day appointments for non-emergency medical issues, based on availability.

Sexual Health Support: Services include STI testing and treatment, STI prevention, contraception and family planning, pregnancy testing and counseling, abortion, routine exams and preventative health screenings. .

Gender-Affirming Care: Inclusive healthcare tailored to support the needs of transgender and non-binary students.

Up-to-date immunizations and vaccinations to keep you protected. Flu clinics offering no-cost flu vaccines for all students will be available this September and October at health services. (Note: Immunization records needs to be submitted prior to the end of September to prevent account hold)
Do you need an appointment to see health services?
Yes, appointments are required to access health services. Same-day appointments are available for students experiencing acute illnesses or injuries. Please note that these services are for non-emergency medical issues. In case of an emergency, contact Campus Police, dial 911, or visit your local emergency room.

Are Mental Health Services Available?
Yes, Salem State also offers counseling services. These services are free and confidential professional counseling staff are available to support students' mental health and personal development. Does Salem State Offer Free Menstrual Products?
Yes, Salem State recognizes that menstrual health products (MHPs) are essential. The university provides free menstrual products at various, gender-inclusive locations across campus to ensure accessibility for all students.
What Other Products Does Health Services Offer?
Health services also provides a Wellness Vending Machine, stocked with a variety of over-the-counter medications and wellness products at significantly lower prices than local pharmacies. This initiative aims to make essential health and wellness items affordable and accessible to students. The most popular items in the wellness vending machines are pregnancy tests and emergency contraception.
Health services has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Harm Reduction services to offer naloxone (Narcan) nasal-spray medication on campus at no cost. These can be picked up to have on hand in case of emergencies or found in various locations on campus.
University police, counseling and health services, and each AED on campus also has Narcan to use in the event of an on-campus emergency. For an on-campus emergency, university police should be immediately called at 978-542-6111.
Like your primary care medical office, health services bills each student’s medical insurance for reimbursement of health related services. Students should upload their health insurance card to their student health portal every academic year. We consider the mandatory college fee that students pay to be the annual copay, which means that no additional copay is required to use our services. In addition, we do not balance bill students or families for services not covered at 100 percent under their plans. This means that any charges not paid fully by insurance plans, such as deductibles, will not be billed to policy subscribers or students and will be written off. All students can access health services, regardless of insurance plan.
We do not bill insurance companies for counseling visits.
What is SS2U?
SS2U is a mail-order program that provides Vikings access to free safer sex supplies, menstrual hygiene products, and DIY STI testing kits. All items are delivered in discreet packaging right to your mailbox (on or off campus) within 5-7 days!
