Established in 2002 by the Rome Statute, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague investigates and prosecutes individuals charged with the gravest international crimes: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression. This talk will explore the court’s history, its functions and jurisdiction, and the role of the Office of the Prosecutor. In particular, the webinar will discuss the recent application of the Office of the Prosecutor for arrest warrants pertaining to the war in Gaza.

Â鶹³ÉÈ˾«Æ· Milena Sterio is the Charles R. Emrick Jr. - Calfee Halter & Griswold Â鶹³ÉÈ˾«Æ· of Law at Cleveland State University’s College of Law. She is a leading expert on international law, international criminal law and human rights. Sterio has testified as an expert before the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on accountability issues regarding Syria, and has presented at the United Nations, also as an expert, on issues related to Ukraine. She has published nine books and numerous law review articles.

Â鶹³ÉÈ˾«Æ· Robert McAndrews is a Â鶹³ÉÈ˾«Æ· Emeritus of the School of Social Work at SSU and co-founder of the Â鶹³ÉÈ˾«Æ· on Holocaust and Genocide Studies.  He teaches courses on Comparative Genocide and International Criminal Law in the Â鶹³ÉÈ˾«Æ·'s graduate certificate program, and he is an attorney specializing in asylum law.
